
Why I Believe Remission from ITP Is Possible: My Healing Manifesto of Faith and Hope
If you’re living with ITP and wondering if healing is even possible, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too—scared, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn. But today, I stand on the other side of that valley, in remission, with a message burning in my heart:

This is my personal healing manifesto—what I believe, what I’ve lived, and what I want you to know as you search for answers and hope.
I Believe the Body Was Made to Heal
Even when lab reports look grim, I believe your body is not broken—it’s communicating. Low platelets don’t mean your immune system has failed. It means it’s asking for help, for restoration, for a chance to reset.
I learned to stop fighting my body and started listening to it.
I Believe in Root-Cause Healing, Not Just Immune Suppression
Most conventional ITP treatment plans focus on suppressing the immune system. And while there may be moments where that’s necessary, I don’t believe that’s the only—or best—way.
I believe in working with the immune system:
- Removing toxic triggers
- Supporting the gut and liver
- Reducing inflammation
- Nourishing the body through anti-inflammatory foods and essential nutrients
For me, this meant combining natural therapies, nutrition, and lifestyle changes grounded in faith and intention.

I didn’t walk this healing path alone. God was with me every step, guiding me to the right information, the right support, and the right mindset shift.
Healing from ITP is physical—but it’s also spiritual and emotional.
Fear and hopelessness are heavy burdens. But when we give those to God, we create space for peace, clarity, and healing to begin.

What we say over our bodies matters. For a long time, I repeated what I’d been told—“I’m sick. I have an incurable autoimmune disease.” But eventually, I started speaking life instead.
Now I say:

What if…there are toxins in our environment that are making us sick…or keeping us sick?

- THESE TOXIC INGREDIENTS ARE ALLOWED IN THE U.S. BUT ARE BANNED IN OTHER COUNTRIES!

- Air Fresheners (especially plug-ins, candles, & wax warmers)
- Cleaning supplies
- Laundry products (detergent, fabric softeners, dryer sheets0
- Personal care products (Shampoo/conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, etc)
TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO GO HUNTING THROUGH OUR CUPBOARDS FOR 2 INGREDIENTS!
- FRAGRANCE – THE “F” WORD!
U.S. regulations do not require disclosure of any ingredients in a mixture called “fragrance.” A single synthetic fragrance in a product can contain hundreds of chemicals. When I hear the word “fragrance”, my brain hears, “Chemical cocktail of unknown origin.”
These pollutants (fragrances) adversely affect our health by damaging the central nervous system, causing imbalances in our hormone levels, or increasing allergies or respiratory disease. They are hidden in almost everything! Soap, skin care, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant....check the ingredients in your products!
2. SODIUM LAURAL SULFATE / SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (AKA: SLS)
This ingredient is used to make foaming products “sudsy”. It is often found in shampoo, hand soap, dish soap, shower gel, etc. It is linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, organ toxicity, skin irritation, hormone/endocrine disruption.
PRO TIP - BEWARE OF GREENWASHING!
There are MANY companies who pride themselves on being “healthy” or “toxin free”. BUYER BEWARE! I found BOTH fragrance AND SLS in products from Mrs. Meyers, Method, Seventh Generation, and Melaleuca.
YOUR CHALLENGE…IF YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT….(Insert “Mission Impossible” theme song…)
Look in your shower, bathroom cupboards, and kitchen. Look for the “TOP 2” – Fragrance and Sodium Laurel Sulfate. How many products did you find containing these 2 toxins?
Of course, we can take the time to read every label at the store....but it can begin to feel like a full time job! I have an "easy button"! Here is my favorite bundle of "clean" cleaning products!

Even after 18 years in remission from ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia Purpura), one thing still blows my mind - the vastly different perspectives of western and eastern medicine on the root cause of this autoimmune disease.
Western doctors claim there is no root cause; that for some unexplained reason, the immune system simply "flips" and starts attacking the platelets. But traditional Chinese medicine sees it completely differently. TCM believes there is NOTHING wrong with the immune system itself. The problem lies with the platelets - they have become "sick" and toxic. So when the immune system destroys these tainted platelets, it is simply doing its job properly!
What could cause platelets to become toxic in the first place? Anything from built-up pharmaceutical drugs, pesticides, heavy metals or other contaminants in the body can create this toxic state.
Let that sink in - there may be NOTHING wrong with your immune system! This contradicts everything we've been taught about autoimmune conditions. It calls into question the standard approach of suppressing the immune response and boosting platelet production. If the platelets themselves are compromised, then suppressing immunity won't fix the issue. And producing more tainted platelets won't solve it either.
Eastern medicine believes the path to true healing for ITP lies in restoring the health of the platelets themselves. This involves removing toxins from our environment and bodies, while infusing our cells with proper nutrients and bloodstream purification.

As an ITP warrior, I do a lot of research so I can be a good steward of my health. However, I sometimes come across conflicting information. One piece of research seems to answer our question…while another piece of research tells me the exact opposite! I feel caught in the middle….what am I supposed to do?
For example, we often get conflicting information about what may be “good” or “bad” for the platelets in our blood.
TIP #1 – Always look (or ask) for research. We may have well-meaning family and friends who want to share informationthat they heard somewhere. We want to trust our doctors. Our doctor may even be an expert in ITP (if there is such a thing, with ITP being so rare!) However, doctors are not typically experts in nutrition or food. It is up to us to be come experts in…us!
TIP #2 – Beware of the statement “It lowers platelets”. We need to understand the difference between platelet quantity and platelet quality. Platelet count is the actual number that appears on our lab work. Platelet aggregation refers to the “stickiness” of the platelets. Many times we are told something will “lower the platelets”, when in fact, it may make the platelets less sticky. Know the difference! It will help you make an informed decision.
TIP #3 – Research both sides of the argument. You’re going to have to decide who to believe and whose advice you trust enough to follow. Whose information resonates with your personal philosophy of wellness? (It may even happen that your doctor stands on the side that you don’t agree with. I suppose that is a discussion for a different time…)
TIP #4 – Understand the risk-to-benefit ratio. Turmeric, ginger, garlic, oh my! These foods have tremendous health benefits. SOME sources say they can effect platelet aggregation. (There are other sources that say the opposite!) You may decide the health benefits outweigh the possible risk...or not... If you’re undecided, refer back to tip #3.
My point isn’t to tell you what is safe or recommended for your personal health. I encourage you to make that specific decision for yourself. However, my point is….make sure you look at the actual research on BOTH sides of an issue whenever you hear someone say, “That is bad (or good) for your health…” Also, it is Ok to disagree with your doctor.
